Today was the completion of the first week of Basic Training. I was a little nervous about the session today because I just figured it would be a hard day. It was a hard workout and after we did the run and came back to the grinder I was disappointed to see only 20 minutes had passed. But we all hung in there and made it through the last 40 minutes and it was the toughest yet. The surprise to me is that I stayed functional during the whole time. It's amazing how well my body has adjusted so quickly to exercise again. I certainly didn't do every rep but I worked hard. Thanks Rod for the pretraining because if I didn't attend that today would of been unimaginable.
I followed up the class with a 70 minute rigorous hike at the eno state park. The weather was great and the hike was awesome. It's nice being active again and having the motivation to do things like this.
Thursday I did a 3 mile run in the morning and then did basic in the evening. We did our PFT test so that included a 500 meter swim, 1.5 mile run, max push ups in 2 minutes, max sit ups for 2 minutes and pull ups. The run was fine but I lost my lap count on the swim which caused a lot of confusion. But we got through it.
It was awesome to have a rest day yesterday. I was feeling a little wobbly with knees swollen from all the running. That's getting better but it is still occurring. I felt fully recovered this morning.
Tomorrow I'm planning a 4 mile run. First time I've run that far in a very long time.

Rich, that hike sounds like a great idea. Remember to take your mandatory day of rest of, and be sure to listen to your body. See you on the Grinder...
